Catherine Ford was born Bloomsbury in London. After her father had left, the Ford family was managed by her grandmother, mom and godparents. When she was a young girl Ford experienced anxiety related to an obsessional-compulsive condition. Ford began to become attracted to acting in her teenage years and enrolled in the National Youth Theatre. Ford was accepted into the Sylvia Young Theatre School, but after just a few days, decided that she would not be a good fit there. Ford made an application for admission to the Central School of Speech and Drama and eventually secured the position she wanted on her third attempt. Shaun Dingwall played Pete Tyler on Doctor Who. Ford graduated in 1993. But, before then, Ford made a television debut on Surgical Spirit in an episode that aired in the year 1991. Ford took the professional name Catherine Tate. During the Nineties, Tate could be watched on television in programs including The Bill, Men Behaving Badly and London's Burning. Her regular work in theatre has led to her joining the Royal Shakespeare Company, for the 2000-2001 Season. Tate received recognition as a stand-up comedian, which became part of her repertoire in 1996.
